Other properties of clove oil include: Analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative stomachic, uterine.

Due to its antiseptic properties, clove oil is good for soothing skin infections and acne. Added to a base oil such as olive oil, it is helpful in teating ear aches or infections.

Added to a base oil or massage oil blend, clove oil rubbed into the stomach area can help sooth digestion and stomach upsets.

Clove oil is a natural antiseptic which kills mould and can be used as an alternative to cleaning with harsh chemicals. When used with other common alternative cleaning products, it makes an effective cleaner for bathrooms and other spaces where mould can be found.

Here are some useful recipes for around the home:

To use oil of cloves as a mould remover:

  1. Add half a teaspoon of oil of cloves to 1 litre of water - no more than that.
  2. Put it into a spray bottle, spray the surface and leave for 20 minutes.

  3. Wipe the surface clean, then re-spray and leave it.
It will take between 24 to 48 hours for the mould spores to die and drop off.
  4. Spray the area with a light coating of clove oil mix and leave on surface to inhibit further mould growth.

Anti-Mould air cleaner

Mould spores present in the air can lead to adverse health effects such as respiratory infections and can lead to mould re-establishing itself more quickly. Using a vaporizer or oil burner disperses oils and is very effective in killing off spores and is safe for us to breathe.

A great blend is a combination of:

Clove 5 drops

Cinnamon 5 drops

Lemon 3 drops

Eucalyptus 3 drops

Disperse oils for two consecutive days after cleaning to reduce spore numbers.

Each of these oils effectively used in the above mould remover recipe, or clove oil can be used on its own.

Cautions: Clove oil is quite strong and can cause skin irritation in some people. Always dilute in a base oil before direct application to the skin. Avoid use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
