Clary Sage oil is steam distilled from the flowering herb of Salvia sclarea. It has a heavy nutty herbal scent that is calming, soothing and relaxing. It's name derives from the Latin 'clarus' meaning 'clear', this may be due to it's use to clear mucous from the eye and promote clear vision.
