Apocynum cannabinum.  Canadian hemp  Family: Apocynaceae (Dogbane family)       
The name Dogbane came from ancient indications that this herb is useful for treating dog bites.

TASTE: Bitter, disagreeable. ODORLESS
ACTIONS
1. Diaphoretic, diuretic, emetic, expectorant.[1]
INDICATIONS
1. Cardiac dropsy- It has actions similar to Strophanthus.[1]
PREPARATIONS:
The root is about 0.5 cm or more in diameter, rarely branched, longitudinally wrinkled, sometimes fissured transverely, pale brown externally. The bark is thick, whitish, with a central porous, radiate wood and often a small, central pith. Fracture short.
Powdered root 0.05-3 g.[1]
Liquid extract 0.05-0.25 ml.[1]
Tincture 0.2-0.5 ml.[1]
