Despite their name, cuttlefish are not fish but mollusks. Cuttlefish are sometimes referred to as the "chameleons of the sea" because of their remarkable ability to rapidly alter their skin color at will. Cuttlefish change color and pattern, and the shape of the skin to communicate to other cuttlefish, and to camouflage themselves.

PREPARATIONS: Decoction of 4-9 g of cuttlefish bones and water. Or pulverise and swallow with water.[1] Dry inner shell 4-9 g.[2]
- Asthma- Mix 500 g cuttlebone powder and 1 000 g sugar for oral administration. Take 20 g each time for adults or a redued quantity for children, 3 times a day; in general, the treatment take effect in 2 weeks. Among 8 cases treated with a history of 3 to 27 years (all treated using refined drugs without results), 7 cases were brought under control and the asthma attacks have not recurred despite many changes in weather and 1 case showed improvements.[3]
