Selaginella is the sole genus of vascular plants in the family Selaginellaceae, the spikemosses or lesser clubmosses.

FUNCTIONS

INDICATIONS
1. Bleeding - Traumatic bleeding, hemoptysis in pulmonary disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, metrorrhagia.[1,2] Hematuria, persistence of post partum lochial discharge.[1] Discharge of blood from anus.[2]
2. Suppression of menses.[1] Leukorrhea.[1]
3. Rectal prolapse.[1,2]
4. Used in anticarcinoma patent formula.[2]
CONTRAINIDCATIONS: Pregnancy.[1]
PREPARATIONS: Decoction. Whole plant 9-15 g.[1]  Dried whole plant 4-9 g.[2]

HABITAT: Found growing on alpine rocks or between rock cliffs, drought resistant.
DESCRIPTION: Perennial evergreen herb. Main stem short, numerous fibrous roots. Terminal branches clustered, curling into a fist shape when dried. Leaves; dense, gathering in tile overlap pattern arranged on branches. Lateral leaves lanceolate, both sides unequally inclined. Sprangia; at terminal tips like spikes.
