FUNCTIONS
Group: Blood Regulating
1. Quickens the Blood and dispels Blood stasis, nourishes the Blood.
INDICATIONS
1. Blood deficiency with Blood stagnation: Irregular menstrual period, dysmenorrhea with pain before and during the period, amenorrhea, lower abdominal pain aggravated by pressure, dark-clotted menstrual flow or scanty dark red menstrual flow T- purple or purple-spotted with thin coat P- wiry and thready, irregular or uneven
APPLICATIONS: Primary dysmenorrhea, amnenorrhea, irregular menstruation, anemia, threatened miscarriage, postpartum weakness, insufficient lactation, urticaria, neurogenic headache.
INGREDIENTS
Angelica polymorpha- 当归 Dāng guī- Angelica
Paeonia rubra- 赤芍 Chì sháo- Red peony
Ligusticum chuanxiong- 川芎 Chuān xiōng- Szechuan lovage root, Cnidium
Rehmannia glutinosa- 熟地黃 Shú dì huáng- Cooked rehmannia
Prunus persica- 桃仁 Táo rén Peach kernel
Carthamus tinctorius- 红花 Hóng huā- Safflower
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Excessive Heat patterns, Yin deficiency, Spleen Qi deficiency with digestive problems and loose stools.
COMMENTS : This formula is the same as SI WU TANG with two additional herbs to quicken the Blood and dispel Blood stasis. This formula is used for similar conditions to those treated by Si wu tang, with more severe symptoms and signs of Blood stagnation.
